Thermotech floor
systems have nationwide experience of industrial floor preparation.
Below are a few examples of where Maxit products have been used for
industrial floor construction.
|
Project & Location: Vauxhall Car Plant, Luton
Products: ABS Duro® System
The Vauxhall car plant produces 330 vehicles per day, so an halt in production is naturally extremely expensive. The problems posed by the need to upgrade areas of an old, uneven and cracked floor were solved by using the ABS Duro® System. After preparation and priming, subsequent layers of ADB Durobase® and Durotop® were installed to substantial areas of the production lines.
During a typical installation, from a 5pm start on Friday, the production line was back in operation on Monday morning, 7am sharp. The ABS Duro® Systems is seamless, thin, flat, smooth and has a wearing surface that is non-dusting and more wear resistant than power floated concrete. It is used in many industries including: automotive, engineering, printing, manufacturing, warehousing and distribution.

Project & Location: Celestica Floor Renovation, Kidsgrove,
Staffs
Products: ABS 148 Self Level and ABS 330 Thick Bond Screed
maxit ABS pumpable self-levelling cement based floor screeds were used recently to provide a smooth, level floor for electronics giant Celestica's new manufacturing plant at Kidsgrove, Staffordshire.
The building had to be completely renovated to provide printed circuit assembly stations (PCA's) in a clean environment for the computer, telecommunications and networking industries. The area had previously been used for bare board manufacture and subsequently needed a total overhaul with 5,000m˛ of new floor screed. Managing Director, Bob McGuiness states, "The floor badly needed renovating and the project lead time and associated increase in costs did not lend itself to the complete removal of the existing slab".
After some remedial work on the badly damaged substrate, maxit's ABS 330 thick bond screed was pumped onto the existing concrete to a thickness of between 20mm and 50mm in order to build up the overall height and produce a flat even surface. ABS 148 was then pumped on top at a rate of 1,200m˛ per day. The result was a thin hard wearing surface, that was walkable within a couple of hours and ideally suited to the final anti-static vinyl covering.

Project & Location: Bluewater Oil Platform
Products: ABS 600 Marine Elastic
Refurbishing a ship or oil rig has to be done in the shortest possible time, but laying screed by hand is slow and can delay many of the other trades.
Jim Rogers, a specialist marine flooring contractor based in Scotland, was delighted to discover that ABS 600 Marine Elastic pumpable floor screed could reduce the installation time of the floor screed in the accommodation module of Bluewater's 'Bleoholm' floating Production Storage and Offloading vessel. ABS - 600 Marine Elastic may be installed on a steel decking substrate at a rate of up to 1000m˛ per day. The floor is ready to receive foot traffic in 1-2 hours and soft floor coverings within 24 hours.

Project & Location: Aston Martin Lagonda Car Factory, Newport Pagnall
Products: ABS 410 DuroTop Self Level Screed And ABS MD 16 Primer
ABS 410 DuroTop self levelling floor screed has been laid at the Aston Martin Lagonda car factory at Newport Pagnall to provide a smooth, level and hard wearing surface for this manufacturer of hand built luxury sports cars. Aston Martin Lagonda were looking for a heavy duty flooring solution which would blend in with the newly completed power floated concrete on the adjacent work shop and preparation bays.
Talking of preparation, maxit took the precaution of shot blasting the whole areas within a special enclosure formed to protect the car production areas from any stray dust. The concrete base was sanded and primed using ABS MD 16 primer to ensure a perfect bond between the substrate and the new ABS 410 DuroTop self-levelling industrial screed. This left a seamless, level, smooth surface. It took less than 3 hours to pump the whole 600m˛ area to depths varying between 8 and 12mm.
The hard wearing industrial strength screed was dry enough to walk on within just 2 hours of application. The following day the floor received a coating of water based epoxy resin and one coat of high build resin coating to provide an attractive, non-slip finish. This ABS 410 DuroTop system was laid over a two day period.
